Hey Eivom. Help me out here. I grew up believing the Civil War was between the North and the South. Fort Sumter is here in South Carolina, so why would the South’s army aim to bombard something that is in our backyard so to speak. I mean, who was supposed to have been on Fort Sumter?

  2. eivom Says:

Actually the Civil War started April 12, 1861 When Confederate forces started bombarding the southern wall of fort Sumpter from Fort Johnson on James Island. The “star of the west” story is the citadel version of history. Most historians do not consider firing at (not hitting) an unarmed supply ship the beginning of the war.

Go back to your Place in the Sun. We live with cultural diversity, heat, hurricanes, history, great food and love it!
If you are from/pretend to be from LA, thus “User Name”, good luck in traffic, heat, crowds and over-priced housing/goods.

  4. CappinCrabs Says:

charleston doesnt suck at all it all depends where you are at.
If you are in N. Charleston you are in the ghetto where the crime rate is very high.
    S. Charleston is where all the historical buildings are at and the beaches, etc.

I can’t believe people on here have so mcuh bad to say about Charleston! Everyone I know who lives here loves it. Crime is not that bad, most people I know who actually live downtown feel safe on the streets, even alone at night. All these comments say its gay and dirty - I mean what does that mean anyway? Plus the girls at the college are some of the most beautiful ever. Plus the beach, great food…paradise!
